Why does beer temperature matter for carbonation?
Warmer beer holds less dissolved CO2 already, so it needs more priming sugar or a higher PSI setting to reach the same target carbonation level as colder beer.
What CO2 volume should I target for my beer style?
Lagers and lighter beers often target 2.2-2.7 volumes, British ales around 1.5-2.0, and Belgian styles or American wheat beers often go higher, 2.8-4.0 volumes.
Can I use corn sugar, table sugar, or DME for priming?
Yes, but they have slightly different fermentability. This calculator assumes standard corn sugar (dextrose); table sugar needs about 10% less and DME about 25% more by weight.
