Wood Filler Drying & Cure Time Calculator

Wood filler dries fast on the surface but needs extra time to fully cure through deeper repairs. This calculator adjusts base cure times for fill depth, product type, and your shop's temperature and humidity so you don't sand or finish too early.

About this calculator

Estimate how long wood filler needs to dry and cure before sanding based on fill depth, product type, temperature, and humidity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does deeper filler really take longer to cure?

Yes. Solvents and moisture need to evaporate out of the filler, and deeper fills trap more of it, slowing the cure significantly compared to a thin skim coat.

Can I speed up curing with heat?

Gentle warmth (not direct high heat) can speed solvent evaporation, but too much heat can cause cracking, especially in epoxy fillers, so keep increases moderate.

Is epoxy filler always faster than wood putty?

Generally yes for initial hardening, but check the manufacturer's full cure spec since some epoxies still need 24+ hours for maximum hardness even though they're sandable much sooner.
